This beautiful textile is a Tzute.  It is from the town of Solola.  I met the woman who made it while visiting one of the cooperatives.  It just called my name.

It measures 34 x 36 inches.  It is actually made from two 17-inch panels that have been put together with a hand embroidered "randa."  It would look beautiful on a table, or could be cut to put into your own designs.

A tzute is a Mayan cloth used for everyday or ceremonial purposes. It is  woven on a back-strap loom and the design are specific to the village of the weaver.   Tzutes are used to carry things, to wrap babies, and to block the sun.  They are also worn in religious ceremonies.  Such useful little pieces.
